The Airbus A340-600, the longest commercial airliner of its era, represented Europe's answer to ultra-long-range transoceanic flight without twin-engine restrictions. First flown on April 23, 2001, it was a low-wing four-engine airliner powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 556 turbofans that could seat up to 440 passengers. Stretching 247.4 feet in length with a range of 7,900 nautical miles, it was manufactured by Airbus in Toulouse, France.
