The Cessna 500 Citation I, America's first truly affordable business jet, democratized corporate aviation by offering jet performance at turboprop prices. First flown on September 15, 1969, it featured straight wings, twin Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D turbofan engines, and seating for up to eight passengers. With a maximum speed of 411 mph and range of 1,528 miles, the Citation I measured over 43 feet in length with a wing area of 278.5 square feet. Built by Cessna Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kansas, it launched the world's most successful business jet family.
