
The Pilatus PC-7 Astra, a turboprop-powered military trainer that became one of Switzerland's most successful aircraft exports, first flew on April 12, 1966. This low-wing single-engine monoplane accommodates two crew members in tandem seating and is powered by a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A turboprop engine producing 700 shaft horsepower. With over 450 aircraft delivered to 21 countries and more than one million flight hours logged worldwide, the PC-7 measures 64 feet in length with a 34-foot wingspan. Pilatus Aircraft of Switzerland developed this trainer from their earlier P-3 design.
