The Ikarus C-42 Bison emerged as a defining aircraft in the ultralight touring category, establishing new standards for safety and performance when it entered production in 1997. Designed by Swiss engineer Hans Gygax, this high-wing, two-seat monoplane features a composite fuselage with tricycle landing gear and side-by-side seating in a spacious 1.22-meter-wide cockpit. Powered by a single Rotax 912 series engine producing 75-100 horsepower, the C-42 spans 9.45 meters with a maximum range of 375 nautical miles. The aircraft is manufactured by Comco Ikarus GmbH of Germany.
