The British Aerospace BAe 146-100 was Britain's most successful commercial jet airliner, pioneering quiet four-engine regional transport with exceptional short-field performance. First flown on September 3, 1981, it was a high-wing T-tail monoplane powered by four turbofan engines, seating 70-88 passengers in a 93-foot 10-inch fuselage. The aircraft achieved remarkable quietness that earned it the "Whisperjet" marketing name, operating from noise-sensitive city airports that larger jets could not access. Exactly 35 examples were manufactured by British Aerospace between 1983 and 1992.
