The Taylorcraft Model D was an affordable tandem-seat trainer that played a crucial role in American pilot training during World War II. First flown in early 1941, it was a high-wing, single-engine monoplane that seated two in tandem configuration. Measuring 22 feet 9 inches in length with a 35-foot 5-inch wingspan, the aircraft was powered by a 65-horsepower Continental A65-8 engine. Over 3,170 units were manufactured by the Taylorcraft Aircraft Company between 1941 and 1946.
