The Mi-17 MT, NATO designation Hip-H, became the Soviet Union's most successful medium-lift helicopter and one of the world's most widely exported rotorcraft. First flown in 1975 as the Mi-18 prototype, it evolved from the proven Mi-8 design into a twin-turboshaft helicopter capable of carrying 30 troops or 4,000 kilograms of cargo. Measuring 25.3 meters in length with a 21.3-meter rotor diameter, it achieved a service ceiling of 4,500 meters and cruise speed of 250 kilometers per hour. The aircraft was developed by Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant under the direction of Mikhail Mil.
