The Airbus Helicopters EC-155, a twin-engine medium helicopter that significantly expanded the VIP and offshore transport market, first flew on June 17, 1997. This twin-turboshaft aircraft featured a spacious cabin accommodating up to 15 passengers—40% larger than its predecessor—and was powered by two Turbomeca Arriel 2C engines producing up to 935 horsepower. With a rotor diameter of 12.60 meters and maximum cruise speed of 278 kilometers per hour, approximately 100 units were manufactured by Eurocopter (later Airbus Helicopters).
