The Piper PA-12 Super Cruiser holds the distinction of being the first light personal aircraft to circumnavigate the globe, accomplished in 1947 just months before production ended. First flown on October 29, 1945, it was a high-wing, single-engine monoplane powered by a Lycoming O-235 engine and configured to seat three occupants. With a maximum cruise speed of 115 mph and range of 521 nautical miles, the aircraft represented a significant evolution from Piper's earlier Cub designs. Built by Piper Aircraft Company from 1946 to 1948, approximately 3,760 to 4,000 Super Cruisers were manufactured.
