The Bell 214B BigLifter was a commercial medium-lift helicopter that brought military-grade heavy lifting capability to civilian operations. First flown as the prototype Bell 214 Huey Plus in October 1970, it was a single-engine turboshaft helicopter that could handle utility transport missions beyond the capacity of earlier commercial rotorcraft. Powered by a 2,930-shaft horsepower Lycoming LTC4B-8D turboshaft engine, the 214B represented a significant leap in commercial helicopter lifting power. Bell Helicopter manufactured the type from 1976 to 1981 at their Fort Worth, Texas facility.
