
The Boeing 717-200, the final commercial aircraft produced at the historic Long Beach facility, represented the culmination of the DC-9 family lineage and introduced revolutionary manufacturing techniques to commercial aviation. First flown in 1998, it was a twin-engine, T-tail regional jet powered by Rolls-Royce BR715 turbofans and configured to seat 80-110 passengers. Measuring approximately 113 feet in length, the aircraft achieved a perfect safety record with zero hull losses or fatalities throughout its service life. Originally developed by McDonnell Douglas as the MD-95, it was manufactured by Boeing following their 1997 merger.
