The CRJ-700, a stretched regional jet that became a cornerstone of modern airline hub-and-spoke operations, first flew on May 27, 1999. This low-wing twin-turbofan aircraft seated 66 to 78 passengers and featured two General Electric CF34-8C engines mounted on the rear fuselage.
