
The Mil Mi-6, designated 'Hook' by NATO, was the world's first production turboshaft helicopter and held the title of largest operational helicopter until the Mi-26's introduction in 1980. First flown on June 5, 1957, it was a twin-engine heavy-lift helicopter powered by two Soloviev D-25V turboshaft engines, capable of carrying 90 passengers or 12,000 kilograms of cargo. With its massive 35-meter main rotor diameter and length of 33 meters, the Mi-6 established 16 world records and became the first helicopter to exceed 300 kilometers per hour. The aircraft was manufactured by the Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant from 1959 to 1980.
