The Fokker 50, a modern regional turboprop airliner that represented the Dutch manufacturer's final attempt to modernize its successful F27 Friendship design, first flew on December 28, 1985. This twin-engine high-wing aircraft featured advanced Pratt & Whitney Canada PW125B turboprops delivering 30 percent better fuel efficiency than its predecessor, accommodating 46 passengers in a fuselage measuring 82 feet 10 inches in length with a 95-foot 2-inch wingspan. Manufactured by Fokker in the Netherlands until the company's liquidation in 1997, the aircraft achieved a total production run of 213 units.
