The British Aerospace BAe 146-200 was a pioneering quiet regional jet that revolutionized short-haul commercial aviation through its exceptionally low noise levels and short-field performance capabilities. First flown on August 1, 1982, it featured a high-wing configuration with four Textron Lycoming ALF 502 turbofan engines and typically seated 85 passengers in regional airline service. Stretched 2.34 meters over the original BAe 146-100, the -200 variant became the backbone of the 221-aircraft BAe 146 family produced by British Aerospace from 1983 to 1993.
