The A-37 Dragonfly was a twin-engine light attack aircraft that proved highly effective in counter-insurgency warfare during the Vietnam conflict. First flown as the prototype YAT-37D in October 1964, it was a low-wing twin-turbojet design derived from the T-37 trainer that could accommodate a two-person crew and carry substantial ordnance loads on eight underwing pylons. Measuring 28 feet in length with a 35-foot wingspan and powered by twin General Electric J85 turbojets, the Dragonfly achieved a maximum speed of 507 mph. The aircraft was manufactured by Cessna Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kansas.
