The Christen Eagle revolutionized the homebuilt aircraft industry as the first truly complete aerobatic biplane kit, challenging the dominance of the Pitts Special in unlimited aerobatics. First flown in 1977, it was a tandem-seat biplane powered by a 200-horsepower Lycoming engine with fabric-covered wings and welded steel tube fuselage construction. With a wingspan of 19 feet 11 inches and length of 17 feet 11 inches, more than 350 examples have been completed by homebuilders. The aircraft was designed by Frank Christensen and manufactured by Christen Industries.
