Analysis

On June 8, 1994, about 0952 eastern daylight time, a Cessna 152, N6159Q, registered to Executive Pilot Service, Inc., crashed to the side of runway 8 while landing at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, while on a 14 CFR Part 91 instructional flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and no flight plan was filed. The aircraft received substantial damage and the student-rated pilot was not injured. The flight originated at Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on June 8, 1994, about 0940.

The student pilot stated that he was on his first supervised solo flight and he was performing his first landing. His instructor was observing from the control tower. As he flared for landing the aircraft touched down hard and bounced into the air. He initiated a go-around. During the go-around the aircraft drifted to the left of the runway and appeared to be in line to collide with a cluster of vehicles. To avoid hitting the vehicles he reduced the engine power to idle and landed the aircraft in the grass area adjacent to the runway. On touchdown the aircraft's nose gear collapsed.
