On August 27, 1994, at 1200 eastern daylight time, N9885A, a Cessna 195B, owned and operated by David Swanson of Wakefield, New Hampshire, crashed during landing at a private strip in Ossipee, New Hampshire. The certificated airline transport pilot and his passenger were not injured. The airplane was substantially damaged. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and a flight plan was not filed. The personal flight was operated under 14 CFR 91 and had originated in Sanford, Maine.
The pilot reported that he made a normal approach to the airstrip. He stated that the airplane touched down and during the landing roll the main landing gear broke and the airplane ground-looped.
The landing gear was examined by an FAA Aviation Safety Inspector who reported that the left main gear folded during the roll out due to fatigue failure.
