Analysis

On Thursday, November 10, 1994, at 0900 eastern standard time a Cessna 152 airplane, N160UU, collided with terrain while on a touch and go landing at Port Bucyrus airport near Bucyrus Ohio. The student pilot received minor injuries. The airplane was substantially damaged. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and a flight plan was not filed. The airplane was being flown on an instructional flight under 14 CFR Part 91 and was owned and operated by Detray Aviation Inc..

A certified flight instructor(CFI) and student pilot had completed four takeoff and landings when the CFI elected to solo the student. The CFI reported that the student had completed the second landing when the airplane "...started to swerve to the right, then left, & right, upon swerving left the aircraft went off the left side of the runway...." In a written statement to the Ohio State Highway Patrol the student stated "...The airplane went sideways and I tried to correct this position and went sideways, and loss [lost] control completely...."

Post accident examination of the aircraft by a Federal Aviation Administration Safety Inspector revealed no anomalies. The pilot also reported that there were no mechanical malfunctions.
