Analysis

On August 20, 1995, about 1930 eastern daylight time, N1496T, a Piper PA-34-200, ran off the runway, at Kissimmee Airport, Kissimmee, Florida while on a 14 CFR Part 91 instructional flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and no flight plan was filed for the local flight. The airplane was substantially damaged and the instructor pilot and dual student reported no injuries. The flight had originated from the same airport about 30 minutes earlier.

The instructor stated he aalowed the student pilot to land long on the touch-and-go. The student attempted a takeoff and the instructor then aborted the takeoff. The airplane overran the runway and collided with a ditch. The airplane was equipped with brakes on the student's side only.
