Analysis

On August 28, 1995, about 1650 central daylight time, a Cessna 337D, N85972, registered to Mid Mississippi Aircraft, collided with trees during a go-around at the Carthage-Leake County Airport, Carthage, Mississippi. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and no flight plan was filed for the 14 CFR Part 91 personal flight. The airplane was substantially damaged and the private-rated pilot and one passenger were not injured. The flight originated about 1630 from the Union Municipal Airport, Union, Mississippi.

The pilot stated that after touchdown during the landing roll, while forcibly applying the brakes which were nonresponsive, his seat back broke. He pulled himself upright and recognizing that insufficient runway remained, he applied full power to go around. During the initial climb the airplane collided with trees past the departure end of the runway, then the ground. Additionally, the pilot reported no discrepancies of the brake system before departure.

No determination could be made as to the reason for the reported brake failure.
