Analysis

On September 17, 1996, at 1700 central daylight time, a Cessna 152, N757PC, operated by a student pilot experienced a hard landing on runway 11 at the Airlake Airport, Lakeville, Minnesota, while on a solo training flight. The 14 CFR Part 91 flight was operating in visual meteorological conditions without a flight plan. The airplane was substantially damaged and the pilot was not injured. The flight originated from the Airlake Airport, at 1645 cdt.

The student pilot reported that while on short final the airplane was traveling at 68 knots with 20 degrees of flaps. He stated that he was too high during the landing flare so he added power to go-around. He then discontinued the go-around at which time, according to the pilot, the airplane "... landed hard, bounced and nose of the aircraft veered to the right ..." prior to touching down again. The airplane then traveled off the right side of the runway into the grass.

The student had a total of 2.2 hours of total solo flight time when the accident occurred.
