Analysis

On November 27, 1997, at 1145 eastern standard time, a Cessna 150L, N11350, was substantially damaged during a hard landing at the August Acres Airport, Center Village, Ohio. The student pilot was not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and a flight plan was not filed. The solo instructional flight originated at Mount Vernon, Ohio, and was conducted under 14 CFR Part 91.

The student pilot reported that during touchdown on runway 27, the airplane bounced three times. He said his approach speed was 8 to 10 mph above the normal speed. The airplane bounced 75 feet high after the first touchdown, 30 feet the second time, and then the nosegear collapsed.

A Federal Aviation Administration Inspector reported that the pilot had flown to August Acres to purchase fuel, and that the airplane touched down about halfway down the turf runway. The student pilot had accumulated over 33 hours of total flight experience, all in make and model. The pilot reported that there was no mechanical malfunction with the airplane.
