Analysis

On May 21, 1993, at approximately 1500 central daylight time (CDT), a Lewis RV4, N61DL, was substantially damaged during landing near Tyler, Texas. The commercial pilot was not injured. Weather for the local area flight was visual meteorological conditions. Barbara Schreiber of Tyler, Texas, was the registered owner.

During a telephonic interview with the pilot, conducted by the investigator in charge, the pilot reported that during the landing the brakes locked up and the airplane veered off the runway. He further reported that after departing the runway the airplane struck a runway sign.

A post accident examination of the landing gear revealed no anomalies that would have caused the brake or wheel to lock up.

Repeated attempts to get the pilot to provide additional information was unsuccessful.
