Analysis

On June 19, 1993, at 1345 Alaska daylight time, a wheel equipped Cessna 207 airplane, N 9869M, registered to and operated by MarkAir Express of Anchorage, Alaska, ran off the left side of the runway during the landing roll at Grayling, Alaska. The air taxi flight, operating under 14 CFR Part 135, departed Aniak, Alaska, and the destination was Grayling. A company VFR flight plan was filed and visual meteorological conditions prevailed. The Commercial Certificated Pilot-in-Command, the sole occupant, was not injured and the airplane received substantial damage.

According to the Pilot-in-Command the landing was normal and when he applied brakes the right brake pedal went "soft." He was unable to stop the airplane before running off the left side of the runway. Examination of the airplane and the right brake caliper showed that the piston and "O" ring had popped out of the caliper and the brake hydraulic brake fluid leaked out.
