Analysis

On June 2, 2006, at approximately 0930 mountain daylight time, an Ayres Corporation S-2R, N5047X, was substantially damaged during a landing attempt on a dirt road near Grand View, Idaho. The commercial pilot, the sole occupant on the airplane, was not injured. Bybee Air Service Inc., Nyssa, Oregon, was operating the airplane under Title 14 CFR Part 137. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the aerial application, cross-country flight which had originated from Boise, Idaho, approximately 30 minutes before the accident. A flight plan had not been filed.

The pilot reported that while landing on a narrow desert road with deep ditches, he attempted to reduce the turbine engine power to idle. He said that he inadvertently went into full reverse, and subsequently veered left into an adjacent fence.
