Analysis

On February 9, 2007, about 1130 Pacific standard time, a Cessna 152, N271RG, landed hard at Long Beach, California. Rainbow Air Academy, Inc., was operating the airplane under the provisions of 14 CFR Part 91. The student pilot was not injured; the airplane sustained substantial damage. The local instructional flight departed Long Beach at an unknown time. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan had been filed.

The pilot submitted a written statement. He was in the traffic pattern practicing landings on runway 25L. He flared and the airplane touched down and bounced, then came down on the nose wheel.
