Analysis

On June 5, 2008, approximately 2030 eastern daylight time, a Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) Highlander aircraft, operated and owned by a student pilot, was substantially damaged when the airplane struck the ground during a go around at Danville, Airport (8N8), Danville, Pennsylvania. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident and the flight was was being conducted as a personal flight under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 without a flight plan. The student pilot, the only occupant, was not injured during the accident. The local flight originated from 8N8 for the purpose of practicing take offs and landings.

The pilot said that on the last landing, the front wheel lifted off the ground, came down, and then lifted again. He decided to take off again, pushing the throttle fully in. The airplane started turning to the left so the pilot banked right to avoid a tree and then struck the ground.

The pilot stated to the Federal Aviation Inspectors at the scene that there were no problems with the airplane.
