Analysis
On June 9, 2009, at 1903 local time, a Piper PA-60, N601RP, was destroyed during collision with terrain and a post crash fire on approach to Guarani International Airport (SGES), Minga Guazu, Paraguay. The pilot was fatally injured. Instrument meteorological conditions prevailed for the flight.
Preliminary information revealed that the airplane was on an instrument approach to the airport, and that the airplane was given a landing clearance. Shortly after the pilot announced that he had the runway in sight, "the airplane stalled at the approach end of the runway and impacted the ground." There was a fire immediately after ground contact.
