Analysis

On May 6, 2013, a Bombardier CL-600-2B19, registration number JA206J, powered by two General Electric CF34-3B1 turbofan engines, operated by J-Air experienced a No. 2 (right)engine undercowl fire on taxi after landing at the Osaka International Airport (RJOO). Upon taxi after landing, the No. 2 engine fire warning activated and the flight crew shut down the engine and discharged a fire suppression bottle. The airplane was taxied to the gate and no injuries were reported. Post examination of the No. 2 engine revealed sooting and evidence of a fire.

The Japan Transport Safety Board (JTSB) is investigating the incident. As the state of manufacture of the engines, the NTSB has designated a U.S. Accredited Representative under the provisions of Annex 13 to the Convention on Civil Aviation to assist JTSB in their investigation.
