Analysis

On July 19, 2019, at 0700 Pacific daylight time, a Cessna 210-5 (205), N8260Z, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Dallesport, Oregon. The private pilot was not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight.

The pilot stated that he arrived at the airport, checked the weather, and performed a preflight inspection and subsequent engine run-up with no anomalies noted. During the takeoff roll, he noted that there was no airspeed indication and he reduced engine power to abort the takeoff. He stated that he lightly pulled back on the yoke, felt the airplane lift off the runway, and he then released the yoke. The airplane porpoised “3 possibly 4” times, “with each getting larger” until the nose landing gear collapsed, and the airplane slid down the runway, coming to rest on the runway surface. As the pilot exited the airplane, he noted flames near the door. The airplane was subsequently consumed by fire.

Postcrash fire damage precluded examination of the pitot-static system or airspeed indicator, and the reason for the lack of airspeed indication during the takeoff roll could not be determined.
