Analysis

On March 1, 2007, at 1128 Pacific standard time, a Monocoupe 110, N18642, ground looped and nosed over during landing at Camarillo Airport, Camarillo, California. The airline transport licensed pilot was operating the airplane under the provisions of 14 CFR Part 91. The airline transport pilot and the owner/pilot sustained minor injuries; the airplane sustained substantial damage. The local area instructional flight departed Camarillo about 1035. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan had been filed. The approximate global positioning system (GPS) coordinates of the primary wreckage were 34 degrees 17 minutes north latitude and 119 degrees 05 minutes west longitude.

According to the pilot, the purpose of the flight was to provide flight instruction to the owner/pilot who was working on his flight currency.

The pilot stated in a written report that following three normal touch-and-go takeoffs and landings, they requested to make a full stop landing. During the landing rollout the left wing tip impacted the runway. Shortly thereafter, the left main landing gear failed inboard resulting in the airplane nosing over.

The pilot stated that the airplane and engine had no mechanical failures or malfunctions during the flight and the accident landing.
